POSITION SUMMARY The Bureau of Law Enforcement is seeking an Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) for its Lynchburg Regional Office to assist the Special Agent in Charge in supervising assigned agents in the administration and enforcement of ABC laws and Board regulations and all other criminal laws. The ASAC will also supervise and assign law enforcement operations and criminal investigations, licensing applications and regulatory compliance, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of field operations, develop and maintain effective working relationships with local, state and federal officials and law enforcement agencies and inspect and maintain assigned regional office facilities and equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Qualified applicants should have considerable knowledge of ABC and other criminal and administrative laws and their applications; ABC rules and regulations; investigative techniques and procedures; methods of analyzing and interpreting complex business or corporate records; laws of arrest, search and seizure; rules of evidence; Rules of Practice before the ABC Board; and the principles of instruction in classroom or field situations.
- Considerable skill in the use of firearms and other carried weapons; the operation of motor vehicles; utilization of electronic surveillance equipment; and the use of defensive tactics is needed.
- The demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; manage criminal investigations and related administrative functions; supervising/manage staff; and interpret and apply laws, policies and procedures concerning criminal investigations and related administrative functions is also needed.
Qualifications: - The demonstrated ability to apprehend, subdue and arrest suspected law violators is important.
- DCJS certification is required.
- A valid driver's license required.
- The successful candidate will be required to live within the geographic area of assignment.
Preferred Qualifications: - Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in business, criminal justice, accounting or related field.
Pursuant to Sections 2.2-3115 of the Code of Virginia, the selected candidate will be required to file a Statement of Economic Interests Form prior to beginning work and annually thereafter.
