Husson University invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor position in Exercise Science, starting in Fall 2025. This role supports a new, rapidly growing program with approximately 100 students annually. Candidates should be committed to developing a meaningful program that prepares students for graduate studies or professional careers.
The position complements existing faculty expertise in the Department of Science, which offers undergraduate degrees in Health Sciences, Biology (with concentrations in Biochemistry and Environmental Science), and Pre-Medicine. The program includes two tracks: preparation for the Doctorate of Physical Therapy and a professional Exercise Science development track.
Located in Bangor, Maine, Husson University is a private institution with about 3,500 students. Bangor offers a safe, affordable community with excellent education and healthcare, and numerous outdoor recreational opportunities, including lakes, trails, ski areas, and proximity to Acadia National Park and Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument.
Key responsibilities include teaching undergraduate Exercise Science courses, with expertise in Biomechanics, Strength and Conditioning, Clinical Exercise Physiology, and Motor Learning. The candidate will participate in outreach activities supporting the Exercise Science Sports Testing Institute. Additional duties involve advising students, managing senior capstone projects, and engaging in service and scholarship as per university policies. The teaching load is 24 credits per academic year, with potential for additional opportunities.
This is a face-to-face position requiring on-campus presence. The successful candidate should hold an earned doctorate (ABD considered) in Exercise Science or a related field, with a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and research development.
Preferred qualifications include prior higher education teaching experience in strength and conditioning, exercise with special populations, nutrition, exercise physiology, motor behavior, human performance, exercise testing, and prescription.
