Reports To: Data Center Manager/Operations Supervisor
Job Summary:
The Data Center Technician is responsible for providing on-site technical support, maintenance, and repair services for data center infrastructure. This role involves diagnosing and resolving technical issues, installing and maintaining equipment, and ensuring optimal data center performance and reliability.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Install, maintain, and repair data center equipment and systems, including servers, storage, networking hardware, and power distribution units (PDUs).
Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware and software problems, using technical knowledge, manuals, and diagnostic tools.
Perform preventive maintenance to ensure optimal equipment performance and minimize downtime.
Repair or replace defective parts, components, or wiring.
Calibrate, test, and adjust equipment to meet specifications.
Provide technical support and training to on-site personnel on equipment operation and maintenance.
Document all service activities, including work performed, parts used, and system configurations.
Prepare accurate and timely service reports.
Manage and maintain tools, equipment, and inventory within the data center.
Adhere to all data center safety procedures and regulations.
Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor while representing the company.
Communicate effectively with colleagues and management.
Identify and escalate complex issues to appropriate technical resources.
Assist in the installation and deployment of new data center equipment and infrastructure.
Qualifications and Skills:
Proven experience as a Data Center Technician or similar role.
Strong technical skills in server hardware, storage systems, networking, and operating systems (e.g., Linux, Windows Server).
Proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting hardware and software problems.
Ability to read and interpret technical documents, such as schematics, diagrams, and manuals.
Experience with data center equipment and systems (e.g., Dell, HP, Cisco, Juniper).
Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Strong customer service and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
Education and Certifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Technical degree or certification in a relevant field (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Science) is preferred.
Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Server+, Network+, CCNA) are a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and/or move heavy objects.
Ability to stand, walk, and/or sit for extended periods.
Ability to work in various positions, including bending, stooping, and crouching.
Ability to work in potentially noisy and hazardous environments.
Must have good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed primarily in data center environments.
Exposure to controlled temperatures, humidity, and noise levels.
Required to use personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary.
May be required to work overtime or weekends as needed.
May involve occasional travel.
