MINIMUM TRAINING & EXPERIENCE The City of Palm Bay is accepting applications for
State of Florida Certified Firefighter/EMT or Firefighter/Paramedic to establish an eligibility list to be used in order to fill Firefighter vacancies. A complete application package includes the following:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Applicant must be at least 18 years of age with a High School Diploma or equivalent. Must be a U.S. Citizen or legal resident alien (birth certificate or green card). Must hold a valid State of Florida Firefighter Certificate of Compliance or Certification of Completion as a FirefighterMust be a State of Florida certified EMT or Paramedic. Must possess a current ACLS certification for paramedics, or a BLS certification for EMTs, from a Florida Division of EMS approved provider.Non-Paramedics shall complete and successfully pass the State of Florida Paramedic exam and receive Palm Bay Fire Rescue Medical Director approval within thirty-six (36) months of hire date. Must pass a comprehensive background investigation, which includes but is not limited to: satisfactory employment history; driving record; national fingerprint check (not have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, as defined by law, or be in compliance with Florida State Statute 112.011(2)(b)., history subject to review); Have good moral character as determined by investigation; Meet the medical requirements as outlined in NFPA standard 1001 & 1582.
NOTE: Florida Statute 633.34(6) requires Firefighters to be nonusers of tobacco and tobacco products for one (1) year immediately preceding application. Palm Bay Fire Rescue Department has a Tobacco-Free policy which requires that you must meet the statute requirement and remain tobacco free during your employment with PBFR. Nicotine tests are part of the Firefighter pre-employment physical. Hiring Process: 1. Written Examination: Completed through National Testing Network (NTN). 2. Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT): Completed through NTN. Qualified applicants who have at least 1 year of experience as a Firefighter with a State of Florida Emergency Services Agency, and who have successfully completed their initial probationary period with that agency, may elect to skip the physical portion (CPAT) of the hiring process.
3. Panel Interview: Upon successful completion of steps 1 and 2, candidates will be considered for a panel interview.
Candidates who successfully complete the written examination, CPAT, and the panel interview will be ranked by total score to create an eligibility list. Veteran's preference points will be added in accordance with Florida State Statute. Additional points may also be added for local preference.
4. Selection and HR Hiring Process: After receipt of a Conditional Offer of Employment, and completion of a comprehensive background check, the candidate will be required to submit to a drug screen and medical examination.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB Under general supervision, performs general emergency response work in firefighting, emergency medical services (EMS), search and rescue of victims, and hazardous material response. Work involves performing fire suppression, emergency medical services (EMS), search and rescue of victims, and/or hazardous material containment/mitigation work in response to alarms, operating associated equipment and apparatus; and training in the methods and techniques of emergency response operations and use of equipment and apparatus. Employee is also responsible for inspecting and maintaining equipment, and performing various maintenance and custodial duties at the assigned fire station. Employee is subject to the usual hazards of emergency response work. Duties are performed in accordance with standard instructions and a well-defined routine under the supervision of a superior officer. Work is reviewed frequently through observation. Reports to a Fire Lieutenant.

Dental Insurance: Dental coverage is offered in three plans that include DHMO & PPO High/Low plans.
Vision Insurance: Vision coverage includes an annual eye exam, frames and lenses or contact lenses in lieu of eyeglasses.
Life Insurance: The City of Palm Bay provides each employee with life insurance in the amount of one time their annual base salary at no cost. Additional coverage is available at the employee's cost up to the Guaranteed Issue amount of $250,000.
Dependent/Spouse Life Insurance: The City of Palm Bay provides each employee with dependent/spouse life insurance in the amount of $5,000 per dependent at no cost. Additional coverage is available at the employee's cost.
Short Term Disability: Coverage pays 66 2/3% of employee's annual base salary during a short-term disability period not to exceed 26 weeks.
Long Term Disability: Coverage pays 66 2/3% of employee's salary at time of disability after a 180 consecutive day waiting period.
Fire & Police Pension: Sworn police officers and certified firefighters participate in a defined benefit pension plan.
Holidays: 10 holidays plus 1 birthday holiday.
Paid Leave: Accrue 144 hours of vacation and 120 hours of sick leave per year. Accrued hours increase based on years of service.
Tuition Reimbursement: Upon completion of the initial probationary period, employees are eligible for tuition and book reimbursement for college level courses for Associate's, Bachelor's and Master's Degrees. (Currently frozen due to budget)
