As a Lactation Consultant, you will play a pivotal role in empowering breastfeeding mothers and infants to achieve successful outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Educate families on proper breastfeeding techniques, infant feeding cues, and the numerous benefits of breastfeeding.
• Develop tailored care plans that prioritize breastfeeding success, considering individual needs and circumstances.
• Offer emotional support and encouragement to foster a positive breastfeeding experience for all family members.
• Maintain accurate records of interactions, assessments, and provided care, adhering to established hospital protocols and patient confidentiality guidelines.
• Provide timely assistance to mothers requiring follow-up care, ensuring they feel supported throughout their breastfeeding journey.

Collaboration and Coordination of Care:

• Work collaboratively with healthcare professionals to ensure seamless continuity of care for breastfeeding families.
• Effectively communicate and coordinate with hospital staff to address lactation needs during hospital stays and post-discharge.
• Monitor progress, address concerns, and adjust care plans as necessary to optimize outcomes.

Outpatient Lactation Support:

• Offer individualized lactation support through outpatient follow-up, including in-person visits and telephone consultations.
• Assess breastfeeding techniques, infant latch, milk supply, and overall breastfeeding goals.
• Address common lactation challenges, such as sore nipples, low milk supply, latch issues, and breastfeeding pain, utilizing evidence-based strategies.
• Provide guidance and support for complex breastfeeding issues.

Training and Education for Staff:

• Contribute to the training and education of hospital staff to ensure accurate and consistent lactation information is provided to patients.
• Promote best practices in lactation care across the hospital through in-service training and educational resources.

Program Development and Improvement:

• Participate in the development and enhancement of lactation services to align with current evidence-based guidelines.
• Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and audits to optimize patient outcomes and satisfaction.

Requirements:

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required
• Bachelor's degree in nursing or related field preferred
• Previous hospital experience desired
• Outpatient follow-up care experience desirable
• In-depth knowledge of lactation practices, breastfeeding management, and maternal-infant health essential
• Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills necessary to address patient needs effectively
• Excellent communication, counseling, and interpersonal skills required
• Able to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team and support diverse patient populations
• Strong organizational and documentation skills needed

Licenses and Certifications:

• RN License in the state of employment or compact required
• IBCLC (International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant) certification required
• BLS required

Work Schedule: 7AM - 7PM
