Legal Assistant

Job Summary
The Legal Assistant provides high-level clerical support to attorneys by performing a variety secretarial duties and skilled tasks that may include preparing case information, tracking cases, supporting attorney’s trial proceedings, and establishing and organizing files.
Duties/Responsibilities
• Keeps cases organized by establishing and organizing files; monitoring calendars; meeting deadlines; documenting actions; inputting information into file database and case management software; confirming case status with attorney.
• Helps develop cases by maintaining contact with people involved in the case; scheduling depositions; preparing and forwarding summonses and subpoenas; drafting complaints; preparing and filing discovery requests; preparing responses to opposing counsel; generating status reports.
• Keeps clients informed by maintaining contact; communicating case progress.
• Creates files to establish and organize case information.
• Maintains case and correspondence files.
• Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Required Skills/Abilities
• Detail-oriented and professional.
• Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
• Extremely proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Basic understanding of office equipment.
• Basic understanding of clerical procedures and systems such as recordkeeping and filing.
• Flexible and adaptable in various situations and when interacting with many different personalities.
• Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
• Knowledge of, or ability to quickly acquire, familiarity with the roles and function of the assigned department, and any specifically applicable laws or guidelines.
• Dependable with a respect to confidentiality and policies.
Education/Experience
• High diploma required; Associates degree preferred.
• One year of legal office experience required; two years preferred.
Physical Requirements
• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Ability to stand, sit, walk, stoop, bend, kneel, grip and type.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
