The role

We are currently recruiting for a Materials Manager to join the IPL team in Shelbyville, Ky.The Materials Manager will manage and administer materials management functions, which include planning, procurement, storage, inventory control, and distribution of materials and products to meet company objectives and customer requirements. This position administers the flow of materials, parts, and assemblies within or between departments, following production and shipping schedules or department priorities, and monitors maintenance of the inventory control system to ensure accuracy. This position is also a resource for regional and central procurement management.

As a Materials Manager at IPL you will:

  • Ensures a safe and healthy work environment within the materials function
  • Establishes and maintains policies and procedures to ensure the safe and veimely flow of materials through the production operations.
  • Overseas and coordinates the plant purchasing system and department.
  • Keeps abreast of new sources for supplies and materials.
  • Monitors bills of materials for adjustments and accuracy.
  • Assists in the purchase of MRO parts.
  • Responsible for initiating and implementing cost reduction initiatives through the materials function.
  • Responsible for understanding, keeping abreast of movements and inventory of raw materials.
  • Responsible for the timely reprocessing, inventory and warehousing of reclaimed materials.
  • Ensures the safe and appropriate use of material handling equipment and its maintenance.
  • Ensure that direct report(s) are adequately trained, equipped, and motivated so that the department's responsibilities and goals can be accomplished in a safe, timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Communicate regularly with all direct reports, both individually and as a team to ensure good two-way communication.
  • Conduct employee performance reviews based on job descriptions to determine competency, knowledge, and contributions. Manages performance issues within company guidelines, working with Human Resources.
  • Comply with the Company’s Human Resources policies and procedures, and promote awareness of, and compliance with these policies.

  • The ability to work in a high-volume work environment in a team atmosphere is essential.
  • Proven management skills in a team environment.
  • Proficient skills in MS Office; Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Experience with IFS software preferred.
  • Have a thorough understanding of the organization and work environment.
  • Have a thorough understanding of plastics materials and the commodity market
