Job Description

Role: Senior Hydrogeologist

Location: Denver (flexible work hours)

Compensation: 100k-160k based upon experience

AimHire is partnering with a client seeking an experienced Senior Hydrogeologist to lead all aspects of the hydrogeological water resources practice, including project and staff management. This position emphasizes planning, permitting, designing, logging of subsurface materials, construction, testing of groundwater wells, and well development. The Senior Hydrogeologist will also support Colorado water rights tasks, including substitute water supply plans, augmentation plans, historical consumptive use analysis, water demand analyses, and lagged depletion analyses.

Responsibilities:

  • Water level and water quality sampling, data compilation, and analysis
  • Interpretation of water level and water quality data
  • Technical writing about field activities and observations related to geologic and hydrogeologic influences on properties and water resources
  • Formulation and execution of analysis using spreadsheet tools and models, including Glover analysis, drawdown evaluations, lag time computations, and similar
  • Well-to-well interference assessments
  • Support for Colorado water rights assignments related to surface and groundwater
  • Assessment of existing performance, development, and rehabilitation
  • Review and interpretation of geophysical logs and aquifer test information
  • Alluvial and bedrock aquifer well design and specifications, permitting, construction oversight, and aquifer testing (municipal experience is desirable but not required)
  • Expert witness testimony

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology, hydrogeology, civil or environmental engineering, or a closely related field, with emphasis in earth sciences
  • 10+ years of experience, with at least 5 years in consulting
  • 5+ years of water supply well design and construction experience
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously within scope and budget
  • Ability to research and understand subsurface conditions
  • Ability to work in the field, coordinate with vendors and contractors, and respond to project scheduling and coordination needs
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, regulatory officials, and contractors
  • Provide clear guidance and mentoring to project staff, including task delegation and technical direction
  • Excellent written communication skills, including technical memoranda and reports
  • Perform fieldwork in addition to regular office responsibilities
  • Knowledge and experience with design and construction of mechanical systems, including electrical, hydraulics, pumping, and controls systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in geology, hydrogeology, civil or environmental engineering, or a closely related field, with emphasis in earth sciences
  • Familiarity with Colorado Water Law
  • Knowledge of Western United States geology, preferably Colorado
  • Experience with Denver Basin aquifers
  • Experience with municipal, residential, and irrigation water supply wells
  • Experience with ArcGIS Pro
  • Groundwater modeling experience

Compensation/Benefits:

  • Full-time position with office and fieldwork opportunities
  • Compensation range (salary + bonuses) is $100,000–$160,000 (commensurate with experience, education, and skills)
