620-Equestrian / Stables - 3402-620 Stable Hand

JOB SUMMARY:

Under supervision, to groom, feed horses and clean/maintain stable areas.


To perform related work as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Feeds horses, fogs stall with insecticides, cleans stalls, bed stalls and corrals.


Cleans outside paddocks and barn area.

Loads and unloads feed, shavings and supplies using Cushman.


Operates dump truck to recycle yard waste to garden center.


Operates tractor to grade arena and trails, washes trucks and equipment.

Regular Attendance Required. All duties performed on site for the Community.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Grooms, cleans, saddles, bridles and exercises horses.


Assists residents on and off horses.

EQUIPMENT OPERATED:

Truck, tractor, cushman, vacuum, fogger, horse grooming tools, Hot Walker, hand blower


and cleaning equipment for barns and corrals.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Exposure to outdoor climate conditions, as well as dust and fumes.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:


Educational development which produces the ability to read, write and apply common sense understanding to the carrying out of oral or written instructions and experience in riding and caring for horses; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which produces the following:

• Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the job.
• Knowledge of safety hazards and necessary precautions in the handling and riding of horses.
• Ability to maintain a schedule of cleaning and work with a minimum of supervision.
• Ability to work hours determined by shift assignment.
• Ability to understand and follow routine and oral instructions.
• Ability to understand and relate to the needs and concerns of senior citizens.
• Ability to communicate effectively with others in English.
• Skill in handling and riding horses.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Possession of a valid California driver's license.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires up to 8 hours of standing and/or walking and up to six hours of repetitive motion.


Continual lifting and carrying of up to 50 lbs., with frequent lifting and carrying of up to 100 lbs.


Continual balancing, feeling, fingering, grasping, pulling and reaching and frequent climbing,


pushing and stooping. Truck driving on a daily basis and occasional operation of tractor and cushman.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Reading, reasoning, customer contact.
