The Student Success Coach is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive school counseling program in support of students instructional and academic goals. The Student Success Coach is responsible for acting as a liaison between school and community in an effort to align community services that support students and their families. The Student Success Coach serves as a consult to administrators and staff in ensuring that services of support are delivered in a manner that supports the district's equity commitments as expressed in Board Policy 7:12: Ensuring Racial and Educational Equity. Essential Role Responsibilities Acts as a systems change agent to create an environment promoting and supporting student success Uses data to identify how school, district and state educational policies, procedures and practices support and/or impede student success Usea data to demonstrate a need for systemic change in areas such as course enrollment patterns; equity and access; and achievement, opportunity and/or information gaps Develops and implements a plan to address personal and/or institutional resistance to change that better supports student success Builds relationships with students and families Collaborates with the building principal and school-based leadership team to create a cohesive and seamless educational journey for all students. Acts in alignment with the Association of School Counselor Association (ASCA) Professional Standards and Competencies to ensure student success Supports student success as outlined in the ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors Assesses student abilities, interests and achievement to help them make decisions about their future. Provides professional assistance and support to a student or small groups of students during times of transition, heightened stress, critical change or other situations impeding student success. Works in alignment with the school-based team to create, facilitate and to advocate for student success in the context of the Section 504 meetings. Works with educators, parents and the community by sharing strategies that support student achievment. Supports and guides students and families to school or community resources for additional assistance and information. Collaborates with parents/guardians and educators to assist students with educational and career planning. Provides direct services to students through preventive and responsive services, including individual student planning, and uses the remaining time in development and management, system support and accountability. Plans, coordinates and provides the classroom guidance sessions to meet the identified guidance and counseling competencies in the areas of academic achievement, career and educational development, and personal and social development to assist students in developing decision-making skills and identifying life goals. Guides, coordinates and supports other school staff in implementing school wide advisory programs. Communicates and shares the goals of the comprehensive school counseling program to stakeholders including students, families and community partners. Assists students in navigating their academic, workplace and community experiences, through the use of individual student planning which includes individual graduation portfolios. Assists teachers in understanding their students, including providing and interpreting student data, student interviews and other planning tools. Uses all available data, including academic grades, discipline referrals and attendance data, to identify students in need and to deliver services. Uses responsive counseling strategies to establish relationships and collaborate with educators, students, families, and community partners which reflect recognition of and respect for each individual and promotes an understanding and appreciation of diverse populations and cultures. Facilitates and coordinates gender support plans for students. Uses data to develop and inform the school counseling program and evaluates the program's impact on the school's instructional goals. Utilizes responsive counseling, initiating individual and group sessions for students' academic, social and personal concerns. Assesses student needs and makes referrals to appropriate school resource personnel, social agencies, community agencies and alternative programs. Intervenes during crisis situations and participates on the school crisis team. Consults with families and staff to appraise student needs and interests and to discuss appropriate recommendations for educational options. Prepares students for the transition to the next level: high school and post high school activities/options. Interprets tests, student data and other assessment results appropriately within the counseling environment for the purpose of developing and implementing academic plans for individual students. Assists families in obtaining services for their children through an appropriate referral and follow-up process. Serves as liaison with Oak Park Township Youth and Family Services, DCFS and other social agencies and community partners. Provides in-service training on topics related to the school counseling program and supporting student achievement. Conducts at minimum a yearly program audit to review the extent and quality of program implementation. Prepares and submits a variety of requested reports and data, to ensure fulfillment of established program requirements. Participates in the development/completion of reports and surveys as required for district and State reporting. Reviews and recommends grant applications and amendments, serves as a liaison to community based organizations and programs serving language minority students. Content Knowledge Required: Understanding of best practices and procedures for developing and delivering high quality middle school programs for all children in a variety of settings rooted in diversity, equity and inclusion. Understanding of the linguistic and cultural diversity of English Learners and delivering high quality language support and instruction. Understanding of the principals, practices and trends in the field of middle school and language acquisition. Preferred Candidate Qualifications: Degree from an accredited college or university in school guidance/counseling, preferred. Meets the State of Illinois certification requirements for school guidance and counseling and retains a current and valid certification as a professional school counselor OR Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) in School Social Work with a demonstrated portfolio of practice aligned to Association of School Counselor Association (ASCA) Professional Standards and Competencies. Two or more years of experience working in a racially, culturally and/or linguistically diverse school district. Physical Requirements: This position requires the performance of light work-which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. The position includes close visual acuity, frequent talking, hearing, walking and standing, occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity.
