Student Success Coach-Black to the Future About Young Community Developers Established in 1973, YCD is a nonprofit organization who serves residents of all ages living in the most historically underserved communities of San Francisco. YCD takes a holistic approach via a delivery eco-system of services designed to empower residents in achieving economic mobility, in turn building and sustaining a positive community by providing them with education opportunities, workforce development training, and social services. YCD's philosophy is that every individual should have the right to sustainable and generational economic mobility, aiming to break the cycle of poverty. Each year YCD provides around 1,200 community members with employment and training services through their programs and partnerships. Project Overview Black to the Future (BTTF) is a call to action for African American community empowerment in San Francisco. It is a city-supported, community-driven collaborative that increases access to services in the areas of Family Support and Advocacy, Education, Health & Wellness, Workforce Development, and Violence Prevention.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the Family Support Coordinator, the role of the Student Success Coach includes developing and maintaining a positive and mutually respectful relationship with students. As the main point of contact for an assigned group of students, the Student Success Coach will focus on guiding each individual student toward achieving academic success. In this learning process, it is important to encourage the students to become more self-aware by understanding their strengths, values, interests, purpose, and passion. This process should also focus on the student developing the necessary skills to be responsible for their actions and decisions. The Student Success Coach supports and works closely with teachers, administrators, and the BTTF Team members in providing educational support for participating students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Student Success Coach will counsel, motivate, advise, and provide caring mentorship in order to help students meet their educational and life goals through transitional sessions inside the classroom during class hours and after class at school or another approved location. Help students create their own Individual Student Success Plans that will focus on goal setting, follow through and monitor their progress. To liaise closely with the classroom teacher to identify appropriate requirements/needs to better support students. To advocate on behalf of parents and report on classroom environment, student behavior, and/or teacher and student interactions. Encourages students to achieve self-awareness, such as identifying strengths, values, interests, purpose, and passions. Assists students in becoming more responsible and developing decision-making skills. Develop relationships with families of students and maintain regular dialogue with family members about students' needs, progress in the program, and challenges. Establish a professional and supportive relationship with the student. Attend meetings with program and school site staff as necessary. Submit daily, monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports on progress of students and families. Other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

A successful candidate will possess: Minimum of 2 years of college, B.A./B.S. preferred. 3 years of youth development experience in lieu of education will be considered. Ability to work with youth who perform at different levels in either a classroom or after-school program setting. Ability to meet the needs of the community by working nontraditional hours as needed, which may include evenings, weekends, and some holidays. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with schools and work in partnership with administrators, teachers, and community partners. Passion for mentoring young people, promoting youth development practices, and working towards social change. Working knowledge of the role of social emotional learning (SEL) principles as an integral approach to education and human development. Excellent cross-cultural communication skills and the ability and willingness to work with economically and culturally diverse clientele from various professional and ethnic backgrounds. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written communications, patience, diplomacy, and high level of customer service skills. Ability to think critically, problem-solve and be resourceful. Embraces cultural differences and is willing to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion. Self-motivated individual who has a passion to ensure that program goals, objectives, and tasks are completed in a timely fashion and exceed standards. Must have proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Strong commitment to the mission of Young Community Developers Inc./Black to the Future and to individuals from diverse populations. Continuous commitment to improve occupational knowledge. Demonstrate competency with using Microsoft Office Suite, Google platform, Zoom, and other technology platforms.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

To best mitigate the spread of disease and protect our staff, it is a condition of employment that all employees be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. LOCATION: San Francisco, CA JOB TYPE: Full Time; 40/hours - Non-exempt SUPERVISORY: No COMPENSATION: $27.00 to $29.00 per hour D.O.E. Final offer amounts are based on multiple factors such as the specific role, hiring location, as well as the individual's skills, experience and qualifications.
